AI Leadership Institute Graduation | April 16th, 2026
On April 16, 2026, Leadership Memphis and Vista Data proudly celebrated the graduation of the inaugural Alpha Cohort of the AI Civic Innovation Lab—an applied generative AI experience designed for executive and civic leaders across Memphis.
Over six weeks, 22 leaders representing organizations including Google, Bank of America, the City of Memphis, United Way of the Mid-South, Hyde Family Foundation, Peer Power, University of Memphis, Trane, Epicenter Memphis, Shelby Farms Park Conservancy, and more came together each Thursday morning to explore how AI can be leveraged to solve real-world challenges impacting Memphis communities.
Participants worked directly with tools including Gemini, Google AI Search, NotebookLM, and Gemini in Sheets, applying what they learned in real time to increase organizational efficiency, strengthen capacity, and generate meaningful data insights that support stronger community impact.
This work is especially important as many nonprofit and civic organizations continue navigating reductions in funding that traditionally support staffing, consultants, and operational infrastructure. Through the AI Civic Innovation Lab, participants explored how emerging technology can help organizations innovate, adapt, and continue advancing their missions with greater sustainability and effectiveness.
During the culminating AI Action Lab sprint, teams developed rapid-response solutions focused on food access, AI infrastructure, agricultural development, retiree civic engagement, and higher education pathways—demonstrating what’s possible when civic leadership and innovation come together with purpose.
Congratulations to the Alpha Cohort for helping shape the future of civic innovation in Memphis. Memphis is stronger because of the work that happened in that room.
