College Intern Program
The College Internship Program provides undergraduate and graduate students with the opportunity to develop real-world leadership skills while gaining meaningful professional experience in Memphis. Through immersive internships, mentorship, and civic engagement projects, students explore the city’s key sectors, connect with community and business leaders, and learn how their talents can make a difference. By combining hands-on work experience with leadership training and community impact, the program prepares participants to lead with purpose and contribute to Memphis’ future.
Program Components
he Leadership Memphis College Internship Program provides undergraduate and graduate students with an immersive, hands-on experience serving directly with Leadership Memphis and Volunteer Memphis. Interns develop practical skills in leadership, communication, and project management while supporting key initiatives such as civic engagement programs, volunteer events, alumni relations, and community outreach. Alongside their cohort, interns participate in service-learning activities and have opportunities to join select Leadership Memphis and Volunteer Memphis programming, gaining meaningful insight into leadership development and community impact in Memphis.
Program Schedule
The College Internship Program is offered in the spring, summer, and fall semesters and provides a structured opportunity for students to balance service, learning, and leadership development.
Internship Commitment: 5–15 hours per week supporting Leadership Memphis and Volunteer Memphis initiatives.
Service-Learning Activities: Collaborative service projects and experiences completed alongside the intern cohort.
Leadership Memphis Programming: Opportunities to attend events, workshops, and volunteer days throughout the term.
Capstone Presentation: Interns conclude their experience by presenting their projects and key learnings to Leadership Memphis staff and their academic programs.
Academic Credit
There is no tuition cost to participate in the Leadership Memphis College Internship Program. The internship is unpaid, but participants earn college credit through their academic institution upon successful completion of program requirements. Students are responsible for coordinating with their college or university to ensure credit eligibility.
