Director of Programs
ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW
Our mission is to cultivate community leaders, curate opportunities for service and leadership with community organizations, connect and convene leaders to share ideas, collaborate around solutions for Memphis’ most pressing issues, and celebrate community advancements.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Director of Programs is responsible for the advancement of Leadership Memphis’ mission through best-in-class programs in the LM program portfolio. Programs will provide thought-provoking content and education, develop high-impact/action-oriented community leadership skills, and include unique experiences with and in the community. The Director of Programs is also responsible for staffing Board committees as assigned and interface with the Board of Directors through the Programs Chair. Additionally, the Director of Programs is responsible for maintaining relationships with the program faculty, providing input and feedback for program structure, changes, and future strategy and offerings.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Manage Leadership Memphis core programs that annually serve nearly 150 community leaders. Program offerings currently include the Executive Program and FastTrack Program.
· Provide high level research, curriculum development/review, planning, implementation and evaluations of Leadership Memphis programs as well as potential new program offerings, agendas and program activities, assuring a highly positive and engaging participant experience and enhancing the Leadership Memphis brand.
· Produce and provide organizational supervision over annual program curriculum, advancing the culture, and creating an ecosystem of community leadership!
· In collaboration with the team, direct the development of each in-person program or event’s logistics to include venue, catering, support staff, AV/technical support, etc. to assure a highly professional experience for participants.
· Develop and manage the annual budget for LM programs and related activities.
· In partnership with the team, develop recruitment plans and strategies and recruit program participants. Drive the application and selection processes, monitoring class demographics to ensure that the classes are made up of people who come from different perspectives and backgrounds.
· Support the development of marketing plans for the LM programs.
· Identify, manage and supervise guest faculty and speakers. Maintain professional relationships and hold everyone who is involved with the planning/delivery of all Leadership Memphis programs to the highest academic standards.
· Supervise staff and volunteers in the execution of these programs and related activities and events.
· Staff key Board Committees as assigned by the President & CEO. Interface and report to the Board of Directors via the Programs Chair.
· As needed, assist with the planning for and execution of LM/VM Signature events (i.e. luncheons and breakfasts, VM Days of Service)
· Other duties as assigned.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS
· Bachelor’s degree required.
· 5-7 years’ experience preferably in business, education and/or non-profit in program content and curriculum development and delivery. Prior budgetary responsibility is required.
· Strong computer skills needed, including word-processing, spreadsheets, and familiarity with complex databases. Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
· Demonstrated ability to multi-task simultaneously and to prioritize to meet deadlines.
· Extraordinary communication and facilitation skills - written and verbal with the ability to read the room, re-frame and re-message content and issues based on audience engagement and understanding.
· This position requires a high level of strategic thinking, organizational skills, project management skills, relationship building, planning, attention to details and accuracy.
· The demonstrated ability to build constituency programs and activities, overcome barriers and obstacles, and possess a talent for motivating staff, program participants, and volunteers.
· Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
· Willingness to use personal vehicle to transport during events.
· Flexibility to work weekends and after hours as needed.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
· Masters degree highly preferred
· Project management, adult learning/education, group facilitation or related instructional certifications
· Understanding of community/national service and education a plus.
· Prior experience working in a non-profit organization.
· Strong, demonstrated understanding of the process of personal and organizational change management.
